 Local History
Kelvedon is a large village, with the River Blackwater
dividing it from the adjacent village of Feering.
Kelvedon and Feering have a joint population of approximately 5000.
The existing village of Kelvedon has been a
settlement since the early Middle Ages, though it stands near the site of the
Roman settlement of Canonium. Kelvedon expanded significantly in the
Victorian times thanks to the direct train link into London. In the 1930s, the High Street became the A12, the main road through
Essex. The bypass was built in the 1960s.
