Land Purchase
News - 21 February 2007
Kelvedon Parish Council is pleased to announce
that it has recently concluded negotiations with Kelvedon Conservative Club to
purchase the Club's car park in order to create a vehicular access from the High
Street on to land belonging to the Council.
The Council's half-acre plot extends from behind the Conservative Club to the
rear of the Institute and planning permission has already been granted for a 37
space car park. Councillors are currently considering final design details and
funds are in place for work to begin in the very near future.
This is a great achievement and thanks are due to all those whose co-operation
and hard work has made it possible. The purchase of the access and the
construction of the car park (and the loan to make the project possible) were
approved at an Extraordinary Meeting of the Council on 19 February 2006.
The Council has agreed in principle to lease the remainder of the land to the
Kelvedon Community Association should it be successful raising the funding to
build a new community complex at the rear of the Institute. KCA has appointed an
architect to explore the design of the building and volunteers have formed a
group to apply to the Big Lottery Community Buildings Fund - so the whole
project is really moving forward and we hope to be issuing invitations to the
official opening of the new car park well before the end of the year.
