Mrs Jill Hinds, Parish Council Clerk, receives her MBE at Buckingham Palace
News - 16 May 2007
Mrs Jill Hinds, Clerk to the Parish Council, has today been to Buckingham
Palace, where she was presented with her award by the Queen.
In the January 2007 Queen's New Years Honours
List, Mrs Jill Hinds, Clerk to the Parish Council, was appointed a Member of the
Order of the British Empire. The award of MBE was made in recognition of her
services to the community of Kelvedon.
The recommendation for Jill’s award, compiled and submitted by local
residents, listed her various accomplishments and commitments to the village
of Kelvedon over a very long period.
These include the following service and interests:
-
Parish Councillor;
- Parish Clerk - a post first occupied in 1978 and still held today, 29 years
later;
- Chairman and booking clerk of the Institute (village hall);
- School Governor of the village primary school;
- Youth work – in several guises;
- Wildlife interests – in particular the formation and arrangements for management
of a local nature reserve.
In arguing why Jill merited the award, the nomination recommendation noted her
outstanding, dedicated, hardworking, and loyal service involving so many aspects
of village life. Her wealth of local knowledge coupled with her availability,
beyond the call of normal duty, were also highlighted.
Today, Jill travelled to Buckingham Palace with her
husband Tony and two of their three children, where she was presented with her
well-deserved award by the Queen.
Afterwards, Jill commented,
"It was a great privilege to be able to receive this honour which recognises
the work of so many volunteers in the various groups and organisations with
which I have been lucky enough to have been associated over the years. We had an
amazing and memorable day and I was pleased that members of my family were able
to share it with me."
