Additional volunteers sought to help with Christmas
illuminations
News - 28 September 2007
At
Christmas time each year the Parish Council, in partnership with local
businesses and residents, works hard to brighten up the village by installing
festive illuminations in the High Street and other key locations. Some of these
are attached to Christmas trees, others to ordinary trees and buildings.
The Parish
Council coordinates the scheme and provides much of the lighting, cabling and
power. This seasonal decoration doesn’t just happen – the council relies on the
willing help of volunteers to ensure this facility continues. The illuminations
have to be installed and taken down entirely by volunteer labour.
Could you offer a few hours of help this year?
The more volunteers there
are, the quicker the job is done - there is always room for a few more pairs of
hands to help the volunteer team. Typically, with sufficient help, most of the
lights can be put in place during just one morning’s work. No previous
experience is necessary, you do not need a head for heights and no technical or
electrical expertise is required – this is already available. There is much
ordinary work to be done at ground level for example, unpacking the kit,
untangling lighting strings, checking and installing bulbs, and delivering them
to the correct location etc.
This year
the lights will be put in place on the morning of
or, in the
event of inclement weather, the following week on
They will be
taken down on the morning of
If you could
spare an hour or two of your time to help with putting up or taking down the
Christmas lights, or both, your help would be very welcome.
