Residents parking scheme
News - 20 January 2008
The council has agreed to re-examine the extent of local support for a residents
parking scheme. The issue has been examined in the past, including extensive
public consultation, which revealed mixed results such that the introduction of
a scheme could not be pursued.
The possible need for a residents parking scheme to cover the High Street and
its adjoining roads has been raised again by residents with our district
councillor. Residents will recall that parking and traffic problems was one of
the central findings of the village appraisal local consultation exercise
undertaken in 2002. It was seen as a major problem for residents and a problem
for local businesses. Parking restrictions of varying types now apply to
different roads to address the problem. Some residents, though not all, express
support for the additional introduction of a residents parking scheme, which may
bring benefits to some, though not necessarily others.
Having reconsidered the matter at its January meeting,
the council has resolved to undertake a fresh consultation exercise with
households within the areas that would be affected, to assess the strength of
support and identify reservations before deciding whether or not it would
support a scheme.
Any scheme would have to be authorised by the county council, to which the
parish council would submit its view.
Residents in areas of the High Street and some adjacent roads can expect to
receive a questionnaire from the parish council in the next few weeks.
