Vacancy at the John Marler Almshouses
News - 12 March 2009
The John Marler Charity dates back to 1419 in the reign of Henry IV, when the
will of John Marler established an order to maintain almshouses in Church
Street, Kelvedon. The current almshouses, built in 1900, still bear his name.
Today, the charity supports vulnerable elderly people by providing accommodation
in the four individual cottages, and maintains them to a high standard. The
centrally-heated cottages comprise one bedroom, a sitting room looking onto the
south-facing garden, kitchen and modern bathroom with walk-in shower, all on one
floor.
There is currently a vacancy at the almshouses and the Trustees are seeking
applications from people over 60 who have lived in the area for at least five
years, or have close relatives in the area.
For further information contact the Clerk to the Trustees, Angela Carruthers,
