New diversionary footpaths around Rivenhall Airfield now available for use
News - 14 May 2009
Further to the news announcement published on 21 February 2009 - due to prompt and helpful action by the Public Rights of Way team from Essex County Council Highways Department and to the extensive voluntary labour so cheerfully supplied by the Friends of the Flitch Way, the footpath network on and in the vicinity of the former Rivenhall Airfield has now been fully restored.
Improvement, clearance and bridge work was also completed on other existing local feeder footpaths paths.
A number of footpaths in Kelvedon and adjoining parishes rendered inaccessible by gravel extraction work had been extinguished, disrupting the network. New diversionary paths for all blockages are now in place and the connections to these are fully signed with a variety of new finger posts and way mark signs from existing paths. Walkers should encounter little difficulty in locating and following the new paths from the signage.
The diversionary paths are all open and available for use and walkers are encouraged to try them. Walking around the extremities of a former airfield and the present gravel extraction work provides interesting vistas.
The definitive map will be amended in due course and, although easy access is possible without reference to a detailed footpath map, a plan detailing both the original paths now extinguished and the diversionary replacements is available for inspection at the Parish Council Office during normal open hours.
Kelvedon Parish Council thanks both the ECC Public Rights of Way staff and the Friends of the Flitch Way volunteers for their help and assistance. |
