How to join the Kelvedon Youth Forum
Who can participate?
Membership is open to all young people in Kelvedon who fall within the age range
10/11 (year 6) to 17. There is no fixed term of appointment, but members are
required to leave the Forum when they reach normal adult voting age. Members
under the age of 15 have to be accompanied by a parent or other designated adult
person, who acts only as an observer. At present, there are about 15 core
members though not all attend meetings regularly.
Are more members required?
More members are always welcome. This will add to the breadth of opinion
available during discussion and, if sufficient number of additional volunteers
come forward, it might be possible to select representatives through an election
process. Existing members are actively considering how they might recruit
additional members.
Involvement on a body such as the Youth Forum, where young people come into
direct contact with other officials and elected representatives responsible for
taking difficult decisions about public policy and for spending public funds
wisely, is an excellent opportunity for self development and for honing a wide
variety of personal skills. Many employers and colleges look for evidence of
such involvement when considering applicants.
How do I become involved or find out more?
To obtain more information, to find out how you might become involved or to
contact the Chair of the Youth Forum, you should get in touch with the
Parish Clerk.
