Official opening of the play equipment
A ceremony took place on Saturday 17 May 2008 to mark the official opening of
the new play equipment recently installed on
the playing field. It was attended by invited guests, parish councillors and
members of the Youth Forum. Local residents, parents and children looked on.
Members of the relatively new Youth Forum enthusiastically and successfully
undertook the project to secure the necessary funding and then choose the
equipment that has been purchased and installed. Information about the
Youth Forum and an
acknowledgment of the sources of
funding for the equipment can be found elsewhere on this web site.
Following brief speeches by Lady Patricia Newton, Chairman of Braintree District
council, County Councillor John Jowers, Cabinet member for Localism and Planning
and Mr Brooks Newmark MP, in which they each praised the achievements of Youth
Forum members and spoke about the importance of local people contributing to
decisions about local spending priorities and choices, Councillor Jowers then
declared the equipment open by cutting a ribbon on the Rock n’ Cross.
The speeches took place against the backdrop of the Rota Web, the newest piece
of equipment that was only put in place over the last couple of weeks to
conclude the installation of equipment secured in the second and final phase of
the present project.
After the ceremony, and over tea and cakes, Youth Forum members presented Jill
Hinds, Clerk of the Parish Council, with a plant in recognition of her advice
and assistance and to mark her
impending retirement. A representative from Wicksteed’s, one of the
manufacturers that supplied some of the equipment was present and made a
surprise presentation of a ‘goody bag’ to each member of the Youth Forum. The
event came to a close following the cutting of a special commemorative cake
baked to mark the event.
Kelvedon Parish Council acknowledges the success of this project that has been
so vigorously and enthusiastically pursued by Youth Forum members and hopes that
the younger residents of the village will now enjoy many happy years use of the
play equipment a direct result. |
