CENSUS DAY – 21 MARCH 2021
Households across Essex will soon be asked to take part in Census 2021. The census is a once-in-a-decade survey that provides the most accurate estimate of all the people and households in England and Wales. It has been carried out every decade since 1801, except for 1941.
HOW TO COMPLETE THE CENSUS
Everyone is encouraged to complete the questionnaire online. This will save cost and have less impact on the environment. It will also enable the data to be analysed more quickly. In early March 2021, you will get a letter with your unique access code. This will enable you to complete the Census online. You can complete the Census online as soon as you receive your letter.
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE INTERNET
You will be able to request a paper copy of the Census questionnaire and this will be posted out with a Freepost envelope for you to send it back. To order a paper questionnaire and other accessible versions of the census questions call the Census Helpline 0800 141 2021.
If you have not completed the Census on 21st March 2021, then Census Field Officers will be visiting households in April and May to offer one-to-one support. Census Field Officers will wear an identity badge, full PPE and will not enter your home.
The Office for National Statistics removes all personal details from the information before analysing it. No personal data is shared with any other organisation No-one ever has access to the personal data until it is released in 100 years when people may want to trace their ancestors or historians may look at it for research purposes. Treat your online access code the same way you would treat a password.
Everyone must complete the census, it is compulsory, refusal to do so could result in a £1,000 fine.
