Statement on the formation of the Kelvedon Library Working Group

Following a meeting on Monday evening, we are pleased to announce that a working group has been set up tasked with working towards securing the future of a library facility for our two villages, as our library in its current form is due for closure. This group consists of a number of interested parties, including both Kelvedon and Feering Parish Councils, the Aylett’s Trust (owners of the current library building), County and District Councillors and representatives of both the Kelvedon & Feering Museum and the Heritage Society.

Over the next couple of weeks this group will be discussing all the options available and working on a number of strategies to try to keep this much loved and used resource open to the public.  One of the options to be discussed is the possibility of a community library, run by local volunteers.  For this to be considered by Essex County Council (ECC) as an option, a substantial number of volunteers will be needed (to minimise individual workload), so if you are able to spare some time to volunteer for this initiative, please contact one of the Parish Clerks:

Kelvedon: 01376 570285, or email,
Feering:  01376 572882 or email

At this stage we are simply collecting and co-ordinating details of those interested in being part of a community volunteer group to consider taking on the running of a library. If ECC agrees to this approach, we will be contacting all those who put their names down in due course with further details.
